The Latest Intolerance Of LGBT People

First of all, my apologies for not having written anything in almost two months. I'm in my last year (now weeks) of high school, and have had to work pretty hard studying for a while. But now that I've done my most important exam, I can post this.

We begin in North Carolina, where anti-LGBT hatred recently made a rather virulent and visceral appearance:

When newlywed Andrew Windham-Harris left work last weekend, he found his Jeep Cherokee had been vandalized. Someone spray-painted the words “Die Fag” in enormous letters across the entire passenger side door.

“It about tore my heart out,” Windham-Harris, who had just married his husband a few days earlier, told WLOS-TV.

The incident happened sometime between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Saturday night into Sunday morning outside the takeout restaurant in Waynesville, N.C. where Windham-Harris is employed.

Windham-Harris’ Jeep was parked beside two other vehicles, but, he says, “mine was the only car that was painted.”

He spent two hours scrubbing off the graffiti only to discover the vandal had also keyed the slur into the door panels. It’s going to cost him $500 to repair.

Next, Harlem pastor and supporter of executing LGBT people James David Manning announced his intention to ensure all LGBT lives are just completely ruined:

"If you know of a business that is owned by sodomites," the hate preacher says, "for instance Tylenol has produced a commercial destroying the images that Norman Rockwell painted so beautifully... then we're not going to buy Tylenol anymore."

He wants a boycott not only of all "corporations and television shows" that are "sodomite controlled" but also any "restaurant that caters to sodomites."

"We're greater than them, we have them surrounded," he says of LGBT people. "We serve them their food," he notes.

Pastor Manning then talks about how "the plantation owners had to be very concerned about" not knowing whether or not "the women who cooked their food...spat in it, or it was poisoned." He goes on to say that anti-gay Christians work in restaurants and stores and "sodomites" are "pushing us to the point where we now need to push back."

"We're greater than them in number, and quite frankly, we have their throats in the clenches of our finger – the index and our thumb. And at any time we want to squeeze that Adam apple, we can."

"We are going to bring you down," he says. "You better watch yourselves."

Manning concludes he has the power "to bring the sodomites to their knees, and if need be, to put them in their economic graves."

Next, down here in Australia, a gay elderly couple has been ordered to take down a rainbow flag from their apartment balcony.

An elderly gay couple has been ordered to take down a gay pride flag from their apartment balcony in Port Melbourne, with the body corporate threatening them with legal action if they did not comply.

Murray Sheldrick, 78, and James Bellia, 72, received what they said was a "nasty" email from the Melbourne Inner City Management Property Owners Corporation on Wednesday last week, demanding that the couple remove the flag from their Rouse Street balcony, or risk a legal case in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The letter, seen by Fairfax Media, warned the couple were in breach of the owner's corporation rules affecting the "peaceful enjoyment" of the other residents.

Also down here, a petition has been filed in the state Parliament of South Australia seeking to have rainbow flags banned from all government buildings:

STATE Parliament has been urged to a ban the flying rainbow flags as a symbol of gay pride in a petition signed by more than 100 people and delivered by a Liberal backbencher.

The petition, endorsed by 103 residents of Adelaide and broader SA, calls on the Government to “restrict councils or other organisations from displaying a rainbow flag or any other design of a rainbow as a symbol of homosexuality”.

It proposes fines against anyone who defied the order.

Next, in Dallas, there has been a recent string of no less than nine anti-gay hate crimes:

In the last two months, there have been at least nine antigay attacks in the Oak Lawn area, and some of the victims were so badly injured they wound up hospitalized.

Dallas Police claim that each of the victims were walking alone at night in a public place when attacked and robbed.

Two of the attacks were severe enough to land one man in jail with a skull fracture after he was hit in the head with a baseball bat.

Another man wound up in the hospital after he was stabbed.

According to Rafael McDonnell of the Resource Center for the LGBT Community, “It’s obvious these people are going in a particular neighborhood and targeting particular people in that neighborhood.”

Who is really surprised? For years, Christian conservatives have been calling for civil war over marriage equality (hello again Steven Hotze). Is it any wonder that some violent savages take it seriously?
