Arkansas State Legislator Opposes Free Speech For LGBT People

More proof that our side is NOT the intolerant side, however much some right-wing victim complex Christian conservative crybabies would like to believe it is.

From Raw Story:

An Arkansas state senator had a meltdown on his Facebook page, freaking out because his hometown of Conway, Arkansas is hosting their 12th annual gay pride parade on a Sunday once again, which he claims is done specifically to mock Christians.
As stupid as a Republican freakout over anything LGBT-related is, at least we can laugh at them.

But it doesn't stop there.

Sen. Jason Rapert (R) took to his Facebook page to rail at the city council that initiated the parade back in 2003, stating that they chose Sundays to have the parade because, “because they understand that the lifestyle they are glorifying on our streets is considered sin by every Bible-believing Christian and they use their parade on a day reserved to worship God and reverence the Lord to mock Christians.”
Nor does it stop there. Here's Rapert's intolerance (emphasis added):
I object to Mayor Townsell and the Conway City Council continuing to allow people, many of whom do not even live in our community, to parade down our streets on a Sunday and accuse Christians of being ‘bigots’ because they believe the Bible teaches that homosexuality is sin,” he wrote. “This is truly one of the most offensive public displays against Christians you will find anywhere in our state and especially offensive because they have specifically chosen Sunday to try and intimidate people who believe in the Word of God.”
There's so much insanity and hypocrisy here I don't know where to begin. First, he plays the persecuted victim card. Conservative Christians say homosexuality is a sin, and LGBT people push back, so the former group are the victims, and the latter group are the oppressors. He had no concerns about LGBT people being persecuted by the Christian expression of homophobia, but he had plenty to say about LGBT people defending themselves. Unless Christians are allowed to spew homophobia and go completely unchallenged, they are being persecuted.

Secondly, he alleged that Christians are being "intimidated". If you feel intimidated by a mere protest in your city (unless that protest is hostile or encourages violence) just because you disagree with the message, then you have an incredibly thin skin. Secondly, he has had nothing to say about all the intimidation LGBT people have had to put up with since forever. The bullying, the discrimination, the violence, the constitutional amendments in 31 states aimed at denying them their right to marry. He has nothing to say about the intimidation in all of that.

But thirdly, and most critically: he "object[s]" to that the council "allow[s]" the parade to go ahead at all. He doesn't just disagree with it. He thinks it shouldn't even be permitted.

Conservative Christians: please remind me again how our side is the intolerant side.
